The drive to the flight school is where a lot of good intentions quietly stall. You book the lesson, you check the traffic, and you start doing the math on how many hours a week you are willing to spend behind a steering wheel instead of behind the controls. Helicopter training that comes to you removes that math from your schedule.
At TruFlight Academy, our home base is Finney Field in Howe, just north of McKinney. When Howe is not the easiest place for you to reach, we fly out to you. Your instructor ferries our Cabri G2 to a select airport closer to your home or work, and your lesson starts there.
Your lesson starts where you are
The process begins with a conversation. You contact us, tell us where you would like to train, and we plan the flight out. Our helicopter travels to you instead of you traveling to us.
We offer this at private airports and, in some cases, residences across Texas, with select airports around McKinney, Allen, Frisco, and other North Dallas communities.

The ferry fee pays for the trip out and back
Bringing the aircraft to you takes flight time and fuel. That cost shows up as a convenience fee, and it is simply the price of the ferry flight there and back. You can review our current training rates on our pricing page, and we will walk you through how the ferry fee fits into your plan.

What stays the same when the lesson moves
Mobile lessons run on the same foundation as any lesson at Howe. You fly our Guimbal Cabri G2, the two-seat training helicopter with glass-panel avionics that our students use throughout their training. You work with a certificated instructor, and your plan follows Part 61 training with pacing shaped around your proficiency and availability.
The rhythm of a lesson does not change either. You brief the flight, fly it, and talk it through afterward while it is fresh. Weather makes the call on every flight, mobile or not, so we keep you updated and help you reschedule when conditions move a lesson. A helicopter needs less ground than an airplane, which is why lessons can happen away from Howe.
Who mobile lessons fit best
Mobile training earns its keep for busy adults whose biggest obstacle is travel time. If your calendar is packed, an airport close to home changes what a training week looks like.
It also suits shared plans. Two students at one airport can split the ferry fee, so a small group of friends or coworkers can train together without anyone carrying the whole cost. When Finney Field is the better home base
Some parts of training belong at home. Finney Field is where our fleet lives, where TruFix Maintenance keeps our aircraft ready, and where you can meet the whole team. If you want to see the hangar, meet the people, and get familiar with the field, a first visit to Howe is time well spent.
You can also mix the two, training at Finney Field or at a closer airport, whichever is more convenient for a given week. If you are coming from farther away, our housing partnership offers out-of-town students a student discount on a nearby Airbnb and an available rental car, so a concentrated stay at Finney Field is easy to plan.
How to set up your first mobile lesson
Getting started takes four short steps:
- Pick the airport nearest your home or work that you would like to train from.
- Send us your schedule, including the days you can protect for lessons.
- Choose your first flight, either a discovery flight to feel the controls or an enrollment conversation to begin your Private Pilot program.
- Talk through the plan and the price with our team, including financing. Financing options may be available to qualified applicants, and we are happy to walk you through them.
